Support » Plugin: UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin » disingenuous

  • I am using UpDraftPlus on several sites. My backups are sent to my google drive.

Each site’s ‘Existing Backups’ section has always shown ONLY that particular site’s backups located on google drive, but suddenly ALL of my sites’ backups are showing in all of my sites’ Existing Backups’ section.

This just started. It seems a bit disingenuous to have a ‘feature’ that forces a customer to pay for another ‘feature’.

    Hi @lexiol,

If you are storing all your backups from different sites in the same Google Drive, then pressing the link “Rescan remote storage” will list all backups from that storage. A tooltip shows when you are about to press that link to explain that this is its intended purpose (edit: it’s actually a dialog explaining and asking for confirmation – see below). People want and use that feature in order to be able to bring a backup from one site into another.

Note that Google Drive provides no mechanism in its API to make it so that one site can’t access another site’s backups. That is their security model. Google don’t want you to use Drive to store business data (they actually forbid it) from multiple sources; see: . They sell Google Cloud Storage for that. UpdraftPlus is simply reflecting the intended use case that comes from Google. There are other storage providers available, of course; S3, for example, has a proper security module for segregating data from multiple sites.

If you press ‘Rescan remote storage’ and didn’t really want to see the backups from other sites, you can simply delete them – as long as you don’t tick the “Also delete from remote storage” checkbox, then it’s just deleting them from the list in that install of UpdraftPlus.

Please do open a support topic if you have any questions – . After all the years I’ve been working on UD, I’ve got used to people occasionally just jumping straight to accusing me of bad faith and dishonesty, and that’s life, but there’s always an explanation, and we’re happy to answer questions.

    Thank you,

Actually I’m a bit out of date – for some time now, clicking the “Rescan remote storage” link actually pops up to advise you of what that does, and gives you the chance to opt out:

“Warning: if you continue, you will add all backups stored in the configured remote storage directory (whichever site they were created by).”
