Support » Installing WordPress » disaster in the first hour: files deleted

Can anyone ICQ me and help walk me through this?
I double-installed WordPress onto my space, once manually with FTP and once with Fantastico. Dumb. I went to delete what I thought was the FTP version, and it wasn’t. I deleted everything in my public_html directory, and I really don’t know what to do now.
I am a brand-new blogger and the damned site was only live for like an hour before I screwed this up. Is this something I need to talk to my host about? Can they just ‘reset’ my directories (since I basically have nothing on them anyway)?

  • greatelm,
You should be able to recreate the original folder under public_html, and then just upload the files to that folder via FTP.
I don’t do ICQ, sorry. If you do IRC you can go to and visit the #wordpress channel for some live support.

Recreate the WordPress install manually via FTP? Or recreate the files that were in there (I’m assuming there were others) before Fantastico put the WordPress install there.
What is usally in a public_html folder anyway? And why would Fantastico put the WordPress install there? I thought it was supposed to be its own directory (eg. “WordPress”) right on the root level?

Okay. Thanks, I’ll give it a shot.
I downloaded ircle 3.1 for the mac. Looks cool.

Holy carmoly. I just logged in (uh..I think) to ircle, and I feel like I just took the red pill.
What in the heck is all that stuff? Anyway, I can’t find
    Oh well.

No luck, by the way with a by-the-book install of WP. I edited the WP config.php file with my info…but
    “forbidden” access.
I think Fantastico needs to let go of something. Uninstall or something.
I know enough at this point to get myself into trouble.

I’ve ICQ’d you, and I have other messengers listed on my site – we’ll get it sorted 🙂
