    (@notboring)

I gave Elementor a try since the reviews sounded great and I spent multiple hours with trying to create a simple 3 column layout with 20% / 80% / 20% widths. I tried different tutorials. I asked multiple AIs. I asked google. But most docs were outdated, looked irrelevant and the AIs constantly suggested menu points that didn’t exist.

The only suggestion that somehow worked even though faulty was Claudes suggestion to use nested containers. A container containing three other flexbox containers flowing to the right with each having different percent based widths. I set the width of the containers to 20% 60% 20% which add up to 100% but the row that should have been full width wasn’t even filled half. That means I would have needed to enter a width wider then 100% to get an actual width of 60%. Which is not possible since you can only enter up to 100%.

The only way that I was able to get this to work was custom css. So after roughly 6 hours and some css hacking I was done with the first step of evaluation. The step that took me a few clicks and roughly a minute in wp_bakery. That’s where I gave up.

    Disapointing.

  • Thanks for taking the time to share your experience — we’re truly sorry it was such a frustrating one.

What you’re trying to achieve (a 3-column layout with 20% / 60% / 20% width) is absolutely possible in Elementor using containers, and it shouldn’t require custom CSS to get there. It sounds like the issue may have stemmed from either a container setting (like width set to default instead of full width) or perhaps from nesting settings or inherited theme styles.

We understand that outdated tutorials or conflicting information online can be confusing — and it’s something we’re actively working to improve with clearer, up-to-date documentation and more visible best practices. We’re also continuing to enhance container usability and precision for layouts just like the one you described.

Appreciate your honest feedback — and we hope we get another chance to show you how smooth the experience can be.
