• I searched the forums and I saw one post on this subject, but it did not really solve my concern. I am looking for a way to disable comments by default on pages, but keep them active on posts.

The solution on the other post was to remove the comments template from the page template but not the post template (single.php)… Of course I thought of that on my own, but the issue with that is even though the form is not there, crafty scammers are still submitting comments to my pages because they know the default comments post variable names to submit to, so they just make their own form and submit to my pages form action.

I tried going into edit-page-form.php in the wp-admin folder, and changing the comments checkboxes to be not checked by default, and it worked, but it appears to be only superficial (when i publish the page comments are still enabled).
