 * i have a single post i want to disable comments on.
    it’s a simple post i’ve
   stuck to the home page. (make this post sticky).
 * when i ‘edit’ the post i don’t see an option to disable comments.
    when i ‘quick
   edit’ i see the option. (very strange).
 * i unchecked the option.
    i previewed the post: no comments. i went to the home
   page (in preview): comments are available. i checked on another computer in case
   the fact that i was logged-in was messing with what i see: comments available.
 * i recreated the post as a draft, went to ‘quick edit’ (!), unchecked ‘allow comments’,
   saved, published: same story: comments available.
 * so,
    – how do i lose the commenting option for this one post? can it be done
   from admin? – what is up with the option only being visible in quick edit? am
   i missing something there?

 * When at your post page look at very top of the page, there’s a grey tab called
   screen option, you can control it from there.

 * i found the screen option but it doesn’t really help with either problem.

 * Yes it does. Ensure that the Discussion checkbox is ticked in the Screen Options
   of any Edit Post. Now every Edit Post will have a new Discussions pane that will
   allow you to turn comments on/off at will.

 * well that bit of detail is useful. i turned on comments, not discussion. thanks.
 * (starting to sound like a MS product. “to toggle allowing comments in your post,
   click on ‘discussions’. no, don’t click on ‘comments’, click on ‘discussions’.
   comments is not for comments, it’s for… we have no idea.”) (no, it’s ok, i get
   it.)
 * any ideas about stopping the ‘Leave a comment’ link from showing up on the live
   page? i’m starting to think this is a code issue…
 * thanks again.

 * No it isn’t. You have to turn the comments off on that page via the Discussion**
   pane** in Edit Post – not via the Settings -> Discussion page.

 * i think i know what’s happening, if not how to fix it (if it can be fixed).
 * the post in question is a _**sticky**_. this seems to have its own behavior.
 * for the hell of it, i clicked on ‘leave a comment’ (for the first time) and it
   went to the post, as a single post. voila, no more link to ‘leave a comment’.
 * **but**, the ‘leave a comment’ link _does_ still show up on the home page, where
   it’s sticky.
 * maybe there’s a better way to put a permanent comment on the home page, instead
   of as a sticky post?
 * it’s not a big deal but any ideas welcome.

 * details, details, details…!!
 * ‘Allow comments’ AND ‘Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page’ have to be
   off.
 * [shouldn’t that be ‘Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this POST’?]
 * sorted.
