Disable Theme editor?

  • Hello, I’m the owner of rune-nation.net I’ve recently made a blog for a winner of a contest. It is hosted on my site.

rune-nation.net/turnerz5 is the blog location. I had added google ads to keep the blog free for the winner. But I recently found out there is a theme editor. And would like to disable anyone from using it? Should I do a code change?Or should i password protect that area via “Password Protect Directories” in cpanel?

    Thank you for your help!

  • How would i disable teh theme editor in admin cp?

By the way, bumping your own thread is frowned upon. What that tells others is that someone has answered your post since there’s now a reply. Kind of like shooting yourself in the foot.

Have you looked at the theme editor?

If this file were writable you could edit it.

If you install the theme correctly and keep the files set to 644, they’re not writable by the webserver user and, therefore, not editable/ writable by your award winner.

You should also be able to delete wp-admin/theme-editor.php file as well. IIRC, it’s standalong and shouldn’t affect your setup if it’s missing.

It is enabled only for certain user levels – not for all.
Normally, only the admin (highest) level is able to switch themes or edit them.

In the 5 hours since your first post you could have created users on various level in your blog and logging in and out would teach you waht they see and/or can do.
