‘Disable’ The Loop for main page; keep for Archives, etc.

    I am interested in disabling the overhead of the ‘default’ Loop for my home page, in favor of using query_posts() to generate specialized output.

    Currently, I am using the administrator setting of 1 post per page to achieve part of this special output. This would affect Archives as well, which may be okay, but I’m curious about the option presented here.
