    What about it are you finding confusing, exactly? It’s a standard part of Markdown and is expected to be there by Markdown parsers.

    I just think it would be easier to edit the text if the link would show inline rather than at the end of the text.

    Unfortunately not, because of how the plug-in works it is actually converting stuff back and forth between Markdown & HTML. The HTML -> Markdown parser uses the footnote syntax for links and there’s no easy way of changing that.
