Disable comment subscription confirmation email

    I have just started using the comment notification service in Jetpack. I have also activated it on another blog that I help administer. There is one thing I have a question about.

    I comment on several WordPress.com blogs and when I chose to receive a notification of followup comments, I receive no confirmation email. However, on the blog that I help administer, I am receiving a confirmation email if I ask to be notified of followup comments.

    Is there a way to disable the confirmation emails? I want to be able my readers to be able to check the box and not have to jump through the hoop of confirming they want to receive notification of followup comments.

    You can’t disable confirmation emails on Jetpack sites, I’m afraid.

    It works differently on WordPress.com, because you use the Follow features while being logged in to your WordPress.com account. You’re already authenticated, so we don’t need you to prove that you were the one subscribing the comments.

    On a Jetpack site, however, you’re not authenticated via WordPress.com, so anyone can use your email address and start subscribing to comments on many blogs. The confirmation emails are there to protect you from being spammed.

    I hope this clarifies things a bit.

    Hi Jeremy,

    That makes sense why the email confirmation is required. However, with Jetpack comments, don’t they allow for social media login? Doesn’t that mean that the commenter is authenticated via their social media?

    That’s correct, but when authenticating Jetpack automatically grabs the user’s email address on the Social Network they used to log in, and sends the confirmation email to that email address.
