• I didn’t think it would be that difficult to find this answer but I’ve searched and searched.

How do we disable the “ping with every post’ function in WP (either temporarily or permanently) short of the blog search engines option in the privacy tab? I just don’t see an option for it and I read a post about wiping the ping list but apparently it automaticaly re-loads ping-o-matic on saving too. Any ideas?

  • Do you mean the setting under “settings” “discussion” and then the top question?

No, I think (correct me if I’m wrong) that the discussion area is just in regards to comments and trackbacks not the “base pinging” to the ping services i.e. technorati…etc.

I already have the options in the discussion area unchecked to keep the spam down but I believe it’s still pinging the services because I have “I would like my blog visible…” under the options>privacy tab. Again, I want it visible, I just don’t want it to ping.

Check under “Writing” -> update services. Make sure there is nothing in the box. If there is, you are sending out pings.

    Hi mrmist,

Please advise on my question relating to your last entry.

quote: "WordPress makes this easy for you by listing Ping-O-Matic's server (rpc.pingomatic.com) by default. All you need to do is sit back and let it work for you!"

I have this “rpc.pingomatic.com” in the box. Does that mean all my updated posts will be sent out automatically? Do I still need to add anything manually myself?, which I have to do that in the older version wordpress. My blog now is using wordpress 2.6.

    Thanks!

As far as I know it does it all automatically and you only need to add things if you want some obscure site to be notified.
