# directory/database functionality

 * Does anyone know of plugin i can use to create a directory/categories/database
   of listings? Examples would be a recipe database, classifieds ads, etc. I guess
   this implies i’ll need an ability to specify form inputs to use when saving the
   information as well.
 * If not plugin, i’m open to other ideas.
 * Thank you!

 * I am not sure what are you asking for.
    Let’s say, you have a category “recipes”
   and you have 123 recipes (=posts) in that category. Clicking on the category 
   name – it will display the “listing” of posts from that cat. Now you can have
   a [Category_Template](http://codex.wordpress.org/Category_Template) that will
   display the posts in whole, or only the excerpts, or only the titles (as a link).

 * I mean something outside of WP “posts” – display examples include:
 * Directory at:

 * In other words, I’m hoping users can fill out forms on my sites that add content
   to the directory listings. Classifieds, recipes, service providers, etc. (I’m
   still going to post content via WP that will include WP Categories)

    (does anybody
   honestly think that people visit sites like the first example you linked? unless
   they are forced to, as I was naively clicking on it, LOL)

 * I suspect you’re right, but was hoping for some recommendations. Thanks for your
   replies. I’ll look to find or write some PHP scripts to do the job.
