 * Just need a bit of help and advice please.
    I had an old website (created on
   old web design software) running perfectly on my hosting and to get to it users
   typed [https://xxxxxx.co.uk/](https://xxxxxx.co.uk/)
 * I then decided to create a new WordPress site and installed WordPress in a sub
   directory TempDir so I could develop it and let the client see the work so far.

   [https://xxxxxx.co.uk/TempDir/](https://xxxxxx.co.uk/TempDir/)
 * I then deleted all the old files and pointed to the [https://xxxxxx.co.uk/TempDir/](https://xxxxxx.co.uk/TempDir/)
   and it has gone live and is working ok.
 * I simply added a re-direct on my hosting from [http://www.xxxxxx.co.uk](http://www.xxxxxx.co.uk)
   to [https://xxxxxx.co.uk/TempDir/](https://xxxxxx.co.uk/TempDir/)
 * Is there any way back to the root directory or do I just leave it as it is?
 * Of course I should have asked the question before I did all of this but any help
   would be appreciated. As I have other old sites this will crop up again especially
   as WP is so impressive compared to my older sites.
 * Alexander

 * Yeah, move it over following this guide: [https://wordpress.org/support/article/moving-wordpress/#moving-directories-on-your-existing-server](https://wordpress.org/support/article/moving-wordpress/#moving-directories-on-your-existing-server)

 * **Thank you James **for the link and I will study with care.
 * I do not know if the current location is ok but it does work ok.
 * Equally I got confused with the admin email and ended up using my own email address
   but again that is working as well.
 * The link document refers to media files and location and as I have many that
   could be a problem. Will study and think twice before trying it out.

 * This is the way I’ve dealt with that before… build in the subdirectory then use
   these instructions to make WordPress run from the subdirectory as if it was installed
   in the webroot.

 * Makes a nice install once you delete the old site’s files also.

 * Many thanks JNashHawkins … good to have the confidence it can be done.
