Thank you for great plugin! Is there a way to change wording for “Directory Listing for Position” when I use shortcode, ex. [pta_member_directory position=”management”]
I currently don’t have any built-in option that allows you to change that text.
However, my plugin is translation ready (and includes a French translation now), so you can use a plugin like Easy Translator to easily change any of the text generated by any plugin (or, at least any plugin that is set up for translation). I actually use Easy Translator on our PTA web site to change some of the default text that WooCommerce uses.
Thanks for your reply. I have changed the wording, but I am little confused as how to safe the changes. It gives me an option to save the file to my pc and to email it….
Are you using Easy Translator? I’m guessing that’s what you are asking about. I haven’t used it for a while, so I don’t remember all the options exactly, but they do have a FAQ/Support site here:
I just took a look at it, and either they changed the way it works, or perhaps I was using some other plugin. I remember that I edited the phrases I wanted to change and the translator plugin I was using saved the results right there on the server by itself instead of you having to download the file and upload it manually.
But, what you would want to do is to save that edited POT file and then use FTP to upload it and overwrite the POT file that’s in the language sub-directory of my plugin ( e.g., yoursite.com/wp-content/plugins/pta-member-directory/languages/ )
Yep, Easy Translator. There is only 3 files in language sub-directory of your plugin:
I tried to substitute pta-member-directory-fr_FR.po, but didn’t work. I”ll see if there is another Easy Translator like plugin..
OK… I’ll check on that… possibly it didn’t get added to the repository correctly.
But, you can save the edited pot file you created as:
and put it in the language directory, and it should work.
WordPress won’t use the French one unless you set your whole wordpress install to French. If you just save it with the file name listed above, with no language designation, it should use that one by default.
The newest release has built-in filter hooks for all public side text output, making it fairly easy to modify any of the default text. There are some files included that show you how to add some code to your theme’s functions.php file to modify any of the text.
However, there is now also an even easier way to modify any of the text. I have created an add-on extension called the PTA Member Directory Customizer, which adds a new sub-menu page on the admin side with a form where you can simply type in any replacement text for any of the text string that are output to the public side of the directory.
I’m making that plugin extension available at my new plugins site:
There are a couple of other free plugin extensions there as well. A shortcode generator for quickly and easily inserting directory or contact form shortcodes in pages, and a SMTP Mailer plugin that sets WordPress to send outgoing mails via SMTP instead of the PHP mailer function (and I designed it to work with the contact form of this plugin).
