Support » Fixing WordPress » directory change – .htaccess problem

  • hi, everyone
i installed wordpress in a subdirectory called “blog” and now need to change the home page to the root folder
i have followed the instructions as below (http://wordpress.org/docs/installation/different-address/).
my problem is with the step 5, my .hyacces file appears not to be writable, so the permalink updating didn’t help, the new index file in the root directory doesn’t have any links.
i have tried to change permissions for the .htacces files through ftp, but i wasn’t aloud to.
please tell me then what exactly am i to do with this information: “If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file. Click in the field and press CTRL + a to select all.” ? how am i supposed to include the new rules in the .htaccess, as long as i couldn’t figure a way to open it, not mention editing?
    thanks
