# Directories not writable

 * This problem is marked resolved in another post, but the solution is not evident.
   I’m having this exact same problem and need some suggestions: I’m using the wp-
   e-commerce plugin.
 * Under products there’s a message
    The following directories are not writable:/
   wpsc/downloadables/ /wpsc/previews/ /wpsc/product_images/ /wpsc/product_images/
   thumbnails/ /wpsc/category_images/ /wpsc/upgrades/ You won’t be able to upload
   any images or files here. You will need to change the permissions on these directories
   to make them writable. They are writable and are set at 755 Any ideas?

 * 755 is only writeable by your FTP user. They need to be set to 777.

 * I had a falling out with my page designer. All of a sudden I get an error message.
   I call godaddy they said someone went in and changed something in the htpacess.
   They wall me through going back in the history file thing. There was a problem
   at first but it eventually cleared, but I was never able to do embed videos on
   my site. I tried putting in the JW player and I got the following error message:
 * Activation of the JW Player Plugin for WordPress could not complete successfully.
   The following directories could not be created automatically:
 *  * – wp-content/uploads/jw-player-plugin-for-wordpress
    * – wp-content/uploads/
   jw-player-plugin-for-wordpress/configs * – wp-content/uploads/jw-player-plugin-
   for-wordpress/player
 * Please ensure these directories are writable. For tips on how to make sure this
   folder is writable please refer to [http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions](http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions).
 * I then click on the codex link given above and it says a bunch of stuff and I
   have no idea what they are talking about but I do notice the htaccess name coming
   up again. So I immediately know this is why I can’t play videos and what he did
   that day. Godaddy says he probably changed something in the custom codes or disable
   the codes. Please help me Please help me.

    I just fixed this error by creating the directories listed in the error
 * I was just upgrading the plugin so I don’t have your exact situation, but this
   worked and everything is working for streaming flash vids.
 * You have to create all the directories just as the error says.
 *     ```
       jw-player-plugin-for-wordpress
       ```
   
 * then inside that folder create
 *     ```
       configs
       player
       ```
   
 * Beyond this, changing permissions on the wp-content folder and the upload folder
   to 777 temporarily and then back to 755 might do the trick if just creating the
   directories doesn’t work.
