Direct link to categories

One of my users told me that it was possible for him to link directly to categories and subcategories. So if one shared a categories link like http://wordpresssite.tld/downloads/category1/subcategory2/#wpfb-cat-xy the filemanager appeared with expanded subcategory2 expanded.

Is there some kind of setting in wordpress that could have changed that? Because now the user ends up with the 404 wordpress-message.
