I’ve been looking through themes and have found several terms used on a regular basis: minimalist, clean, and responsive. I believe responsive generally means the theme adapts to different screen size to display content, but are there official definitions or technical descriptions of these terms? I’ve been digging and cannot find anything aside from lists of clean and responsive and minimalist themes.

Also, are there other terms I haven’t run across to describe general theme designs? (I know the layout and feature terms)

    Thanks

  • In the context of theme descriptions (which are essentially marketing, let’s be honest), neither “minimalist” nor “clean” mean anything beyond “the designer considered their theme to meet their personal definition of the term”. To the best of my knowledge, there is no Official Internet Dictionary that defines these terms.

Thanks for the response. I figured something like this, that the terms are arbitrary and thus relatively meaningless. Doesn’t make me happy, but doesn’t surprise.
