Support » Theme: Coraline » Differences between Coraline and Colinear

  • Hi,
I’m using Coraline at the moment for my website (nessancleary.co.uk), which I’m planning to tidy up over the Christmas break. I understand that the theme has been retired and replaced with Colinear but I’m wondering if its necessary for me to update my website to Colinear. Are there advantages in updating from Coraline – I couldn’t find any specific lists of differences between the two? Is there any disadvantage in continuing to use Coraline now that it’s been retired?
    Thanks,
    Nessan

The biggest benefit of Colinear is that it’s a modern, responsive theme, so it adjusts automatically and is easy to read on devices of different sizes.

Coraline is a much older theme and is not responsive, so sites using it can’t be read easily on tablets and phones.

Is there any disadvantage in continuing to use Coraline now that it’s been retired?

Coraline won’t be updated with security fixes or to add support for any new WordPress features.

    Hi Kathryn,
Thanks for your advice. I’ll have a good look at Colinear.

I use Coraline on all my websites but I just created a new site and Coraline is no longer available for download. Colinear was offered instead, but I have found one major difference.
In Coraline, I can define the default template as sidebar-content-sidebar and individual pages can select either the default or full-width. As a rule, my home page is sidebar-content-sidebar and all other pages are full-width.
In colinear, it does not appear to be possible to override the default. If I want the home page to be sidebar-content-sidebar, then all pages must follow this structure. Have I missed something?
Of course, I can still download Coraline and install it and hopefully it will continue to work OK.
