• Hi everybody

I’m tryin to find out what the differences between the online wp and the downloadable wp are.

I already opened a free account and played around a little.

But then I found the download-page & could download the newest wp-version.

What can I do with that?
I see the advantage of changing a lot more in comparison to the online wp, but
do I need my own webserver to upload the different php-files and so on?
Or can I use the 3gb webspace somehow?

    Are there other differences?
And why should wordpress give a fully built website to everyone for free?
    there must be some restrictions..?!?

Thx, for some good answers ore links.

I just didn’t know where to start lookin for my answers.

    Bye

  • WordPress.ORG offers a pack of software that you can download and use (for free indeed) to host your own blog or website. WordPress.COM offers people to sign up and get their own free blog. The first requires hosting, a web address, etc., the second option doesn’t, you just get your.wordpress.com address. Naturally a self-hosted website is much more flexible than a sign-up account on somebody else’s server.

[edit], hm this was a duplicate post, the previous was already answered.

    ah thx.
didn’t recognize that there was org & com..
now I realize why I had problems loggin in. I probably wasn’t registered for one of them…

and sry about the double-post. Yesterday I had severe problems posting something. It always appeared the 404 error message, so I didn’t notice that it actually worked once.

But thanks anyway. I will check out the .org a little bit more.
