Difference between the source code and the social sharing (via icons)
-
Hi guys,
I use the Yoast SEO plugin (in the free version). That’s my portfolio:
https://riccardoanelli.itI think there are issues with social sharing (Facebook and Twitter).
I consider this page as an example.
https://riccardoanelli.it/progetti/le-gift-card-per-ottica-galuzziI have set up all the custom fields for sharing: preview image, title and description (for Facebook and Twitter). And, if I look at the source code of the page (og:image, og:title, og:description, twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description, twitter:image – via browser), I can see the right custom fields (like I desire).
And I have did it in every page of the portfolio (in the plugin settings).
But…
If I click on the Facebook icon: the post preview has some wrong parameters (title and description).
If I click on the Twitter icon: the tweet preview is empty! No url, no preview and no mention! Only if I paste the url on a new tweet… magically I have the right preview!
Why this difference between the settings and the results? Why this difference between the source code of the page and the social sharing via icons? Am I missing something?
Let me know, please.
Riccardo

Hello @riccardoanelli
Thanks for reaching out about your social sharing and providing a concrete example.
First, I didn’t notice Facebook & Twitter social sharing icons on the post, https://riccardoanelli.it/progetti/le-gift-card-per-ottica-galuzzi.
Facebook
I used the Facebook sharing debugger to preview, and I can confirm theog:title
&og:description
is quite different from what’s in the page source. See screenshotTwitter
I’d have used the Twitter card validator but the preview functionality has been removed. Instead, I tested on Twitter and everything is correct; I believe that meets your expectation. See screenshot. To resolve the issue with Facebook sharing, I recommend using the ‘Scrape Again’ button in the debugger a couple of times.
Do let us know how it goes.
Hi @maybellyne!
No icons on the post?
Maybe, I was doing a test on my website. I see them!Yesterday I found a theme setting for the Open Graph and I disabled it. WOW! Now it works! I think this option was in conflict with my Yoast SEO settings.
Can you try again?
PS:
For Twitter I found this helpful tool:

Thanks again.Riccardo
@riccardoanelli It’s strange that I don’t see the sharing icons for Facebook & Twitter unless I open the post in incognito mode.
I tested the tool you shared, and the preview fetches the correct title but not the description, anyway.
@maybellyne So strange! Maybe it’s just a cache bug…
I think the tool shows just the image, the title and the url. I don’t see the description. But on Twitter I see all the right infos. 🙂
Hi @riccardoanelli,
Thank you for getting back and letting us know.
I’ve checked on Twitter, and I can see all the info as well.
We’re going ahead and setting this thread to resolved, but please let us know if there is anything else we can help with in this matter.
