Goodness no, those are just two different characters. The difference between – and _ is just as much as the difference between a and b.
So I meant to say, underscore and hyphen are treated differently.

I wouldn’t put much trust in snake oil SEO like that, there’s a lot of false information out there.
Google has yet to publish anything to claim that it treats – and _ differently in URL structure.
Well according to this video from Google Webmasters, they are treated differently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQcSFsQyct8
But, it’s apparently not that big a deal really.
@james, I would not be so quick to call out stuff if you didn’t even look at the link, where Matt Cutts from Google explained the difference.

@funkphenomenon, In future you can just link to the official resources like Mark did.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I stand corrected.
(FWIW, there are numerous “SEO” sites out there that are filled with fake quotes from Matt Cutts, I just don’t trust them by default. I didn’t realize this one was a video, which is great. In the future, I’d recommend just linking to that, it looks less spammy to those of us who have to deal with spam every day here.)
