this plugin connect to font awesome website online, But some countries may have limited or slow access to your site, Could you provide an update button? when click the update button, the plugin update the latest version of the currently selected version and download it to the plugin folder, and delete the previously selected version,in this way, plugins can still work when some countries’ networks are not connected to fontawesome official site in real time

Thanks for trying out this plugin and offering feedback.

At this time, we do not plan to change the design of how this plugin loads the icon content or metadata. Loading the content from our Content Delivery Network, rather than transferring to the WordPress server to be self-hosted, is an intentional design choice for this version and future versions of this plugin.

If you’d prefer to use Font Awesome as you’ve described–we call it self-hosting–you can achieve that without a plugin by following a process like you’ve described: downloading each release, placing it your preferred location within your WordPress install, and loading it using WordPress API functions like wp_enqueue_script or wp_enqueue_style.

I want ask about the same. Ok, there is no option to download via plugin, but there is option to manually add scripts with wp_enqueue_script. But if I do that, how can I keep shortcodes option? Maybe the solution is add to plugin option for turning off CDN content?

    Thanks 🙂

Another possibility you might consider: if you want both to be able to self-host icon assets and use a shortcode, would be to just add code to support both to your functions.php.

You could use the code that supports shortcodes in this plug as a guideline:

Most of the code in that function is actually for dealing with mapping v3 icon names. If you’re not trying to do that, then implementation of the shortcode could be very brief–just a few lines of code.
