# Did it work?

 * I upgraded from 2.02 (I think) to 2.03 (I think). Did a back up, deleted those
   things I was supposed to delete, replaced them with new things, ran the upgrade.
   php script, was told that it worked, etc.
 * Problem is that nothin _appears_ to be any different on the dashboard or in the
   write pages. Not from 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 to 2.0.3. And at the bottom of the admin
   pages, it still reads, WordPress – Documentation – Support forums – **2.0.1**–
   0.26 seconds.
 * So: Did it work?

 * From your main page….
 * <meta name=”generator” content=”WordPress 2.0.1″ /> <!– leave this for stats
   please –>
 * So methinks, it didn’t work..and you were running 2.0.1 to begin with.

 * Well, thanks. Back to the drawing board 🙁

 * Can’t think what I’m doing wrong – this is my third run through, and I’m still
   showing 2.0.1
 * Anybody else have a clue?

 * The version shown in the dashboard comes from this file: /wp-includes/version.
   php
 * Open your local source and your remote source and check what those files contains.

 * Thanks for the assist. As far as I could tell, they were identical. Just for
   kicks, I trashed the old version.php on the remote, and FTP’d a new copy. Ran
   the upgrade.php file again, still no joy.
 * Gosh.

 * They may be identical, but what is the version number specified in it?
 * Because I think your local source is a 2.0.1. source. So you’re trying to upgrade
   from 2.0.1 to 2.0.1.

 * Well, I thank you for your persistence in helping. But the source file came straight
   out of ofthe 2.0.3.zip bundle. Guess I’ll just keep plugging away at it. Hmm.

 * Ran it again, same results. Deleted everything but WP-Content and config.php
 * That’s frustrating. The only files in there that I can see which are *not* updated
   from the 2.0.3 bundle as of 6/12 (or so) are the
 * wp-images folder
    wp-config.php smilies folder php.ini error_log cgi-bin folder
   500.shtml 500.php 404.shtml 403.shtml 401.shtml 400.shtml
 * and a number of clearly non-WP files.
 * Rats. With a ball peen hammer.

 * Are you positive you’re installing the new version to the right place? For instance,
   I noticed your Akismet isn’t the current version… is dated back in Feb.
 * Are you getting your download from [http://wordpress.org/download/](http://wordpress.org/download/)?
   Are you making sure you don’t have any old installs of WP laying around before
   unpacking the fresh download?

 * Thanks for your patience, all: Turns out I’d loaded the 2.0.2 files to the top
   level of the webhost, and not to the public_html directory that the blog itself
   is accessed from. Thus, when deleting and replacing the old files, I was in the“
   wrong hole.”
 * All better now.
