  • Here’s a minor problem I’ve encountered: when using the ‘%postname%’ “tag” in the permalinks options, if you have diacritic characters in your titles (you know, accents, ç and stuff like that) they get “converted” all right, but those diacritic characters are left out.
    So, if you have a title saying ‘Regardez ça!’ (or ‘Regardez ça!’ in case this board munges those characters), it will be “converted” to ‘regardez-a’.
    Of course, you could choose words in your titles that avoid those characters (although in French this could be quite tricky), or ignore the problem altogether. But I wondered if this could not be fixed in a future release? After all, that other blogging tool (MT) converts those characters without problems.
    I am not a programmer, so I do not know if this is feasible, but it could be a matter of including rules like:
    é -> e
    à -> a
    è -> e
    ü – u
    ç – c
    etc. I’m sure you got it by now.
    Any ideas (or reactions) regarding this?

  • CitizenK,
    IMO, this is certainly a relevant concern, and it falls under the general category of localization. I suspect that it is more likely that a faster fix for this may come from the community, given all of the work that remains to be done to get WordPress to where the developers want it to be. Check out some of the other conversations on the forums about localization issues and see what work is being done there.

    Could someone put together an array of these and their translations?

    (Sorry about the late answer, the timezone difference works against me 🙂
    Allusion, I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for, but I tentatively put together something for you (adapted from this document).

    *Bump* (Just once 😉
