Developing a new template along side a production one.

  • I would like to develop a new template while not taking an existing template offline. Can this be done? I have not seen this facet of the development process addressed anywhere in the documetation. I don’t have the luxury of having a completely separate development server and so I’d like to make due by somehow having both the new template and the production template simultaneously access the current “production” database. That’s my hope anyway! How can I structure my files/directories to accomplish this?

Probably because the excercise you’re describing sounds as much fun as drinking bleach while sticking rusty needles in one’s eye.

Why not? PHP development packages are free for the major desktop OS’s and easy to set up. Treat yourself to a bit of luxury. And keep your sanity at the same time.

    Or your money back 😉

Anyone else? I can’t believe that I’m the only one that has wanted to do something like this! Whoa – two pages running off the same database! How revolutionary! ;-{D
