    Hello, all,

I’m working on an online poetry magazine. Each monthly issue is a category so we can arrange the archives by issue. What I’m trying to do is create a page template that will call a list of categories that will show the category featured image, a linked category title, and the category description, kind of like this:

I made it as far as generating a list of categories, excluding categories we didn’t want, and got stuck:

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could:

    1) call the category image (I’ve used the Categories Images plugin to assign an image to each category)
    2) Link the category title to the category archive
    3) Insert the category description

    I’d really appreciate any help.

  • hi
I don’t know if you are

talking about this plugin or not but in both cases you can use it and use any of the examples in the documentation from here

Please let me know if you still need help.

Well, I feel a little silly.

Yes, that code from your site called the images for each category. That’s one very helpful step.

Things are a little ugly, though, as you can see: Do you know what I need to do to standardize the image size on the list of categories?

I am also having a hard time getting it to call the category descriptions, as well.

    Thanks again!

All you need is some css styling and everything will be great.

About resizing the images you can use TimThumb Plugin it so easy to use.

About getting category description, just add this line of code inside the loop:
    <p><?php echo $cat->description; ?></p>

    Hope I helped, Thanks

You did! Thanks so much for all your help!

    You are always welcome 🙂
