    It gets stored as a value in the database and does get passed along to spiders.

    Can you be more specific? When you add a meta description to the SEO settings region under the page editor, that html should display in the code.

    Perhaps the theme you are using is interfering with the hook. If so, you should look for the settings to determine if you can disable them (if you want to use SEO Ultimate).

    My suggestion is, try using 2012 or some other theme and then looking in source code for data placed in SEO Ultimate Meta Description Editor.
