Description not showing in search
-
Search results are not showing the description plugged into Yoast. Instead, it’s showing the text in our footer, on every page I search for. This started recently. Any ideas?

We’re sorry you’re having trouble with the meta description shown in the search results. I imagine this can be frustrating for you. We’d like to look a closer look.
Could you please show us some example URLs where the issue occurs so that we can take a look at them?
An example is https://netbasequid.com/applications/quid-pro/
You can do a search on Google for “netbase quid pro” and – after scrolling through the ads – you’ll see that each NetBase Quid page that comes up has the same description. But the descriptions are different in YOAST.
Thanks for the example link.
We confirmed by doing a specific post search on Google and do see that the meta description appearing on the search result for this post is quite different than the one that is appearing on the page source.
On the page source:
<meta name="description" content="With the help of Quid Pro you have the power to read & visualize massive amounts of written content, taking your research far beyond the limitations of conventional methods." />On the search result:
The First and Only Contextual AI Platform Quid Pro gives you the power to read and visualize massive amounts of written content, taking your research far …`We understand that Google is showing a different meta description from the one you set in Yoast.
SEO description you’ve entered in the metabox is correctly outputted on the page source which means the Yoast SEO plugin is working fine.
Regarding the meta title and description output, unfortunately, this is common. While Google typically uses the title and meta description from the metadata for indexing, this is not always the case. The title and meta description you enter in our snippet preview are suggestions for Google. Google’s goal is to best represent and describe each result. They use a number of different sources to get this information. In doing so, they try to make the search results as relevant as possible. Due to this being handled on Google’s end, there is little you can do to force Google to display your preferred title.
Using the URL Inspection Tool can sometimes force Google to update its index. You can also reach out to Google Search Console in the forums and ask for further assistance.

But if you search for NetBase Quid, you’ll find that every (non-ad) result has the same description. On blogs, the description is correct if I search for specific posts.
Also, the two links you supplied at the bottom of your reply don’t go anywhere.
Hi @squiggy45
Apologies for the incorrect links. We meant to reference these help articles – https://yoast.com/help/my-meta-descriptions-arent-showing-up-in-the-search-result-pages/ & https://yoast.com/help/my-seo-title-isnt-displayed-as-i-have-entered-it/
When doing a SITE: search for https://netbasequid.com/applications/quid-pro/ here, we do see that the meta description is appearing differently. It looks like the cached result was as of last November 19. Did you just recently make the changes to the meta description?
Otherwise, we can confirm that the meta description tag that is outputting in the source is correct, so the plugin is working as intended. There’s not much we can do here if Google has decided to go with another preferred description. You may want to optimize and change the meta description and see if that may help – https://yoast.com/meta-descriptions/
