# Deprecated Errors & No Access

 * Hello,
 * I’m getting the following error messages (numerous times) at the top of my blog:
 * “Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in…”
 * It is probably old theme code running on php 5.3.3. I realize I have to update
   WP, and get an updated theme. However, the problem I am having is I can’t log
   into the control panel to change themes. I get the following error messages:
 * 1. Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated
 * 2. Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by …
 * Therefore, I don’t have access to the control panel. I can enter the username,
   and password, and still get error messages, but no access.
 * Any ideas?

   content/themes using [FTP](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients) or whatever
   file management application your host provides.
