 * In the wp-content folder there are many incarnations of WordPress ranging from
   wordpress-2.8.1.zip up to the latest version, 20 zipped files in all.
 * Is it safe to delete these to free up some space?

 * Yeah, but … I don’t know why you’d have those. Were you using a plugin to upgrade
   wordpress for a while? Or to perform backups before upgrading?

 * No, I have to upgrade manually as the auto option never seems to work with my
   site.
