Support » Fixing WordPress » deleting pages leaves stuff burried: can't edit permalink

  • Resolved martcol

Along the way I have created and deleted pages here and there trying to work out how to do stuff. And with some of those pages I have tried different template files too.

Now I have the third attempt at creating a page with the title “Poem” but the slug comes up as poem-2-2 or something like it. When I try to edit the permalink it just goes straight back to poem-2-2 or whatever despite only having one poem page.

I also notice that one of my plugins which has the option to include pages in the menu (WP book) has about 4 poem pages to check to omit.

Hope I can sort this out. I have tried reinstalling plugins, using a clean up plugin to clean the db but no joy.

Go to your page edit screen– the one with the list of pages that you have already created. Look at the top, just above the list. You should see ‘All’, ‘Published’, maybe other things, and you should see ‘Trash’. Clich ‘Trash’. Now permanently delete those pages and you should be able to reuse the slugs you want.

    That did apljdi

    Thank you
