• Newbie here. I somehow created a widget on my blog. I have no idea how I did it but I cannot delete it. I also have a drop down menu that I want to remove. http://ebizschool.biz/wp

I am using the ProSense theme. In the Adsense sidebar I now have this widget “Private Label Rights” and the drop down menu. I want to delete both of those. I have been at it for two days. Totally baffled.

If I go to Manage Design Widgets, I see the PLR widget there but it does not contain an edit function. I cannot find the drop down menu anywhere. I do not know where it came from or how to remove it.

If someone can help me, I will be very grateful.

    Thanks.

    Marion

  • hi marion: did you ever find a solution to this problem? i too can not find a way to delete a widget and am tearing my hair out. it seems like it should be so simple.

Click “Edit” on the widget, click “Remove” from below and finaly click “Save changes”.

many thanks scribu, but on my screen clicking on the widget doesn’t open a remove option. this probably sounds really lame, but i can temporarily solve the problem by usinbg a different theme.

jerjc99: That doesn’t make any sense. All widgets have the remove button in their bottom right corner (after you expand it by clicking edit). There’s no way for it to not be there.

obviously you have two set of sidebar, sidebar left & sidebar right. From the widgets structure i assume that sidebar right is a dynamic sidebar (widgetize) but “sidebar left” is hardcoded inside the template. You may wish to show us your sidebar.php code ( pastebin it).

I have to go into phpMyAdmin and empty the widget table everytime I try to delete a widget. I never used them, and now I never will. I’d rather code my sidebars anyway.

otto42, chaoskaizer, jenmiller and scribu: thank you all very much for your suggestions. i’m glad to say i got rid of the offending widget, as follows:

Dashboard > Design > Widgets > Current Widgets > Select Relevant Sidebar > Show > Edit > Remove > SAVE CHANGES.

    i’m a happy man again
