• Hello. I’ve been cleaning out my widgets temporarily, as I plan to get a plugin that will let me have them just on particular pages. To see what my front page would look like without widgets, I dragged them away from their settings into the inactive area and deleted them. Most went away but three are not listed in inactive, nor are they in any of the widget placement listings, but they are still showing in the sidebar of the website. I saw a post with a similar problem and the solution involved ferreting around in the code. Is there a simpler solution? Thank you for any suggestions.

  • these ‘widgets’ are hardcoded placeholder codes in sidebar.php; to get an impression ‘without widgets’ drag a textwidget into the sidebar area (‘appearance’ ‘widgets’) and leave the title and content empty.

unless you want to edit sidebar.php and remove the placeholder code…

Thanks. That did make them vanish. It still looks like something should be there, but it’s an okay solution. I may need a custom header to really get the look I want (just image and menu), but it’s probably beyond my skill.
