Deleted pictures from media library

Hi,
I have deleted some pictures from media library by using a FTP client, because i dont need then in my post. Now the pictures is shown as broken images in the media library, which i understand is because some picture info remains in the database. But if I log out from wp and open my website in my browser, the deleted pictures is still showing up. How is this possible, and should I also modify the database? Brg. Kjell
