Network Sites: Recently Deleted Sites (6 posts)

I am managing a very large network installation. I currently have 300+ subsites, which has presented me with an interesting challenge. I have scoured the internet and have failed to find resources on the following issue.

I recently deleted several subsites within the last 12 hours. Once deleted, I attempted to create a new subsite with the old name; however, the wp-signup page gives me the following error: "Sorry, that site is reserved!" (In my installation, we using the individual's account name in our active directory to name the site, i.e. jesmith. ) Based on this description, I have a few questions.

    1) Once I have deleted the site in the Network Admin dashboard, how long does it take to reclaim the site name? Note: I have delete the related database tables, and I am still unable to create a new site with the previously used site name. Also, the recently delete sites do not show in the wp_blogs or wp_blog_versions tables.

    2) Is there any way to accelerate this deletion and recovery process? Plugin? Script? Etc.?

Any assistance with this issue will be greatly appreciated!

  2. Are you making a new user or a new site?

Becuase the user signup tables is something else and could be problematic

I am creating a new site. The user is remaining in the system.

I simply deleted a site linked to the user, and I now want to reassign a new site with the same name. However, the sign-up form continued to tell me "Sorry! The site is reserved." I apologize if my description is a little cryptic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    That's what's weird.

Why are you going there? You're the admin, go to yourdomain.com//wp-admin/network/site-new.php

I am using the wp-signup page in conjunction with the Site Creation Wizard. Instead of forcing a user registration, the plugin forces a new site creation, which then copies the contents of a template into a live site. I am using this tool for a student portfolio system. Instead of relying on students to edit the theme themselves, I have designed a centralized portfolio template.

To answer your question, I am accessing this page to test the issue on behalf of my users. The challenge I ran into was creating a new site with a previously used and deleted site name. I hope this clears us your question.

  6. I'm tempted to say this is the fault of a plugin, since on a quick test, I can't replicate the issue.

I will point out this: If you're trying to create a new USER with a name that was used, then yeah, you may have issues.

Go look at the wp_signup table. You should be able to wipe that out without issue (back it up first, just in case :D ) and see if that helps?
