    HI
Is it safe to delete a post after I have done a redirection from it to another post?
Are the redirection rules added the the htaccess file?

    Thanks
    Dan

  • Hi Dan,

I’ve been using Redirection for a while now and based on my experience I would say the answer to your first question is yes, you can delete the post. Since there’s a redirection in place, instead of a 404 the visitor will be redirected to the target URL you’ve set.

As for the second question, my understanding is that the default installation does not change the htaccess file, but there’s an option where you can chose to have the redirects saved to htaccess. Please check the documentation, specially Options > Apache Module: https://redirection.me/support/options/

As with anything dealing with htaccess, it should go without saying that you’d better test anything you do in a test/staging site before you implement it on your website.

    Thanks @cbrant,
So do you know where does the plugin store it’s redirections rules? (it the htaccess option is not selected)?

It depends what you mean by ‘safe’, but if you have redirected a post then deleting it will not cause any problems.

Redirects are stored in the database.
