Yes I know. But I do not want to deactivate the option “Leagues”, since it helps me to keep statistics (like the number of users, for example).
Is it possible to use the “Leagues” option, but also remove the drop-down list within the user registry?
I never tried, but I guess that if you replace the default registration page with a custom one with a plugin (e.g. Theme My Login) then it will work.
/Edit: maybe registration field validation will cause problems.

No, I have Theme my Login installed and it has not worked. What file of the plugin is this?
I can try creating a div and hiding it through css.
Just hiding the elements in the form won’t work. I tried and the form validation requires you to choose a value, so you would also have to include some javascript to select the value.
The easiest (and imho best solution) would be to remove the filters/actions that change the registration form. I created an extension for you that does this.
