 * Hello,
 * I had a problem with the multisite where the thumbnails were not being generated(
broken images) though the images themselves were loading fine in the media library.
In one particular plugin, a couple of the images loaded and the rest did not.
I tried to delete them and reupload – no change. The images still loaded fine
   but the thumbs did not.
 * I realized that the images that loaded, were the ones that I uploaded to site
before another multisite installation (which I later uninstalled without clearing
the database, just edited htaccess and wpconfig) and the broken ones were uploaded
to site after the last multisite.
 * So I thought that something got mixed up with the location to where the thumbs
were being generated – it obviously pulling the thumbs out of the old spot (therefore
older images worked) but the newer ones were not there.
 * Now I unistalled multisite and I want to clear the database of any previous multisite
installations. Problem is that Im worried I’ll delete the wrong stuff
 * I looked for online tutorials but I’m still lost
 * Would anyone have a good link or explanation?
 * Thanks
    Kristina

 * So now with multisite uninstalled (with thumbs back to normal), I checked the
image path for thumbs and the ones that are in uploads/2015/10 folder – load
fine on multisite. the ones that are in uploads/ do not (tried manually inserting
into the 2015/10 folder and going back to multisite – did not work. still broken
   image)

 * Whatever you do, make backing up everything your first step! Backup all your
files as well is the database. Deleting the wrong stuff is very possible, and
you want to be able to get back to at least where you are now.
 * How many broken images are we talking about? If not too many (less than 50),
I think I would proceed in this way:
 * 1. Backup all the images from both locations – the ones that are working, and
the ones that are not loading. I’m a little paranoid about backups, so I think
I would make additional backups of these images besides the backups mentioned
   above.
    2. Use the WordPress export tool to export all of your pages and posts.
Be sure to include attached media. 3. I like to play it safe and test things
out first, so I would advise temporarily putting up a fresh WordPress single
site install, either on a subdomain in your hosting, or using something like
ServerPress to create a site on your local computer. Once you have a plain-vanilla
WordPress install setup, then import the export that you made, and see if you
still have broken images. 4. You might need to re-upload those newer images again
to make sure you no longer have broken images. Definitely DO test to see if new
uploads are working properly. 5. At this point, you can use it backup/migration
plugin or site cloner to migrate the single site back to your main domain. Be
sure you’re using a backup plugin/migrator that will deal with the serialized
change of data in the database.
