My server just died. But it came back to life again. Not sure what the cause was, but I did have a load of emails informing me of a WordPress update just beforehand.

I suspect that all my WordPress sites (I have quite a few!) all trying to update at the same time overloaded the server.

Is there a way to request a delay to auto updates?

  • Currently no. There are core cron processes that WordPress issues.

It is generally recommended (by core WP devs) to not modify core schedules.

We’ll add it to our github issues and see if we come up with a solution.

This may be add-on territory. Not sure we want to give users control over core schedules. Lots of things can break.

    Sorry to keep posting!

You can disable WordPress’ native cron so it doesn’t run. It’s a wp-config option.

And if you have shell access to your servers, you can set up a crontab and stagnate out the updates that well.

It’s a very advanced topic, but it’s something you should consider researching.
