I am getting the message “Error: Stop guessing!” on the login screen of my web page. I have already done a password reset, but it gave me the same message for the newly created password.
What can I do to fix this? I really need access to the admin area. Thank you!

    Hi @jstraten

Sorry to hear you are having this issue.

Do you mean you get a lockout page or it returns on the login page?

Because I checked this “Error: Stop guessing!” and it is not a native Defender error unless was added to a custom lockout page.

Could you try to navigate to WordPress folder using sFTP/FTP > wp-content > plugins and rename the wp-defender to _wp-defender and check if you get the access back, if so, check for any other security plugin, in case you are using more than one plugin it can cause conflict, keep only one security plugin, rename the folder back and check if the login still working.

Let us know the result you got.

Thank you for getting back to me!

Sorry, I should have given some more details. I am using the “Advanced noCaptcha and invisible Captcha” plugin to add Google reCaptcha V3 support to my login page. And, yes, I agree with you that the message is not coming from Defender, but everything worked fine until I installed Defender and activated login relocation.

Well, I also activated some other features in Defender as well, but I believe the problem started after activating login relocation.

I will try to rename the folder as suggested above and report back.

Weird. It just started working again without me doing anything.

Maybe the user got blocked temporarily? I am really confused.

Well, I will monitor it for a few days and see how things are going.

Hi Jstraten, I am curious to know if you are still having issues or if all is well. I am wanting to use this plugin -I like and use many of there other plugins and am generally please.

You set up is similar to my intention of using the Captcha elements. Before I get too invested in this and create problems I am curios to know how it’s working now and if you would encourage me to give it a go.

    Thanks

@flynt I have been using Defender on other web pages without any problems. In fact, this has been first time I had a problem with Defender.

For all fairness, I also agree with Patrick that the message isn’t coming from Defender. Looking at the behavior, I am more inclined to believe that this has been some kind of odd caching problem of some sort. Or, I somehow managed to block my admin user temporarily. I am using a password manager though, but it could have gotten confused by the admin URL change.

So, I would definitely recommend giving Defender a try. Just for clarification: Defender will only give you temporary lockout protection (e.g. three wrong login attempt result in a 3 hour ban). If you also want Google reCaptcha, you will have to install another addon in addition to it. There are quite a few out there, but I prefer “Advanced noCaptcha and invisible Captcha”. It is somewhat simple and gives me all I need.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi @jstraten,

I’m glad you were able to see it has started working again. It may have been caused by caching, but go ahead and monitor it and reach back out to us in case you notice the issue occurring again.
