 * WordPress Related Posts is the best plugin of its type, and we have been using
it on our website for more than 3 years. However there is one bug, which we have
   been unable to solve.
 * One category of posts never displays the featured image but instead displays
default images instead. We have tried different ways to generate the featured
image but all ways tried result in the default images:
 * 1) use of WordPress “set featured image” functionality whilst creating and scheduling
   the post.
 * 2) use of the plugin “Auto Post Thumbnail PRO” to generate the featured image
whilst creating and scheduling the post.
 * The thumbnails are programmed through the media settings as follows:
 * Thumbnail size: width 150 pixels; Height 0
    Medium size: Max width 300 pixels;
Max height 300 pixels Large size: 1024 pixels; Max height: 1024 pixels
 * Even for posts which display a default thumbnail, we find the correct thumbnails
in the uploaded images via FTP. e.g.

at the bottom of this post you will find a default image leading to the following
   post:
 * [http://focusingonwildlife.com/news/poll-should-the-grey-squirrel-be-culled-to-protect-the-red-squirrel/](http://focusingonwildlife.com/news/poll-should-the-grey-squirrel-be-culled-to-protect-the-red-squirrel/)
 * The correct images can be found via the FTP:
 * [http://focusingonwildlife.com/news/wp-content/uploads/red_squirrel.jpg](http://focusingonwildlife.com/news/wp-content/uploads/red_squirrel.jpg)

   [http://focusingonwildlife.com/news/wp-content/uploads/red_squirrel-300×187.jpg](http://focusingonwildlife.com/news/wp-content/uploads/red_squirrel-300×187.jpg)
   [http://focusingonwildlife.com/news/wp-content/uploads/red_squirrel-150×94.jpg](http://focusingonwildlife.com/news/wp-content/uploads/red_squirrel-150×94.jpg)
 * Another thing we have noticed is that the 150 and 300 pixel thumbs are often “
re-generated” at the time when the post is published.
 * Also it seems to be impossible to influence and/or change the thumbs which are
displayed after a post has been published. Even if the featured image is deleted
   and reset.
 * These observations prompt us to ask the following questions:
 * 1) Is this problem of default images caused by scheduling posts?
    2) Is the method
of creating featured images critical for WordPress Related Posts? 3) Does WordPress
Related Posts “re-generate” thumbnails when posts are published? 4) Is there
a way to influence, control and/or monitor which thumbnails are displayed? 5)
Is there a way to retrospectively “correct” a post, which displays default thumbs?
 * If you need more information or would like to access our site in order to check
   out this issue, please advise.
 * Thanks in advance for your excellent support.

 * Hey Ken (if I remember correctly :)),
 * thanks for reaching out and big thank you for such detailed explanation!
    So,
let’s start with some answers: 1.) it shouldn’t be (but there are sometimes issues
with customs WP themes) 2.) it is critical when you are using a plugin for featured
images and not the default WP featured image (but this is also not working from
what I can tell?) 3.) if the thumbnail is not a “normal” size, the plugin creates
a new one and adjusts it 4.) yes, if everything else fails, you can try the “
custom field” option (I can explain in detail how to use this option, if you
decide to try it) 5.) usually yes (if you have a plugin such as WP Cache or similar,
it can prevent making changes to the thumbnails for example)
 * If you can create a guest account on your blog as you suggested, I can take a
closer look at the issue. You can send those credentials to support[at]zemanta[
   dot]com.
 * Take care and happy Monday,
    Petra

 * Just to confirm that the solution to this problem of static thumbs has now been
   solved by:
 * 1) activating custom fields in the settings
    2) adding a custom field to each
post 3) pointing the custom field to the featured image URL
 * WordPress Related Posts remains the best plugin of its type.
 * Thanks again for your outstanding support.
