If I simply install and activate SHIELD to a website, do the default settings provide any protections?

Or must I go through all of the settings to activate even the most basic ones?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yep, there are default setting in-place so you are immediately covered in some areas. You are best to take a bit of time, however, and dig into the settings. There’s a lot to learn, but there’s a lot of docs there and helpful article to help you work though it. 🙂

    Thanks Paul!

I like everything I see about Shield.

But I administrate 150+ WP sites, and that’s why I’m asking about the default settings. I’m considering switching over from iThemes Security, and can mass import and activate Shield.

But I sure wish there was a way to export/import all those settings. (FYI: iThemes Security has such a export/import feature, but there are other things I don’t like about that plugin.)

Is there any way to mass administrate the settings of multiple installs of Shield?

    Hey Kenneth,

Glad to hear you like Shield 🙂

We’ve recognised this as a serious issue with WordPress management and security isn’t the only aspect that suffers from this. We’re getting close to completing our first phase of centralized security management for WordPress by integrity Shield directly into iControlWP. We’re creating Shield Central – a control panel where you will be able to create security profiles/templates and apply these settings and configurations across your whole portfolio, or subsets of the portfolio at once.

You’ll then be able to manage white lists, review stats, and audit trails for all sites from a central control panel. Future development will see us able to reliably manage site security settings that fall beyond the scope of As I mentioned, dev for phase 1 is nearly complete and we hope to have it released by the end of the month.

If this sort of thing interests you, you should give us a look at iControlWP.com. Lots of exciting developments on the way 🙂

    Cheers!
    Paul.
