• Hi guys,

before i buy the woocomerce i need to know if i can fix a problem.

i have two lang English and Swedish. all my pages are in English just now and i have set that my main lang is English also.

But for some reason all my pages have “check” that my Swedish lang is translated and the English has the plus sign “add a translation in English”

how did this happen and have can i change it back so all English are the main lang and the Swedish has the plus sign to click on to translate?

    Warm regards Birken

  • If you check the FAQ at https://wordpress.org/plugins/polylang/ you may notice that the free version of Polylang is not compatible with WooCommerce. (I’m not affiliated with Polylang, nor with WooCommerce, I don’t even use them, just decided to comment here, since the Polylang readme specifically state that they provide support only on their own site polylang.pro)

    Oh.
So Polylang is a tool to create a multilingual site. The idea is that most of the content on your site should be available in both languages. However, the plugin will not do any actual translation, you have to translate yourself.
And the plugin doesn’t look at the content in order to determine which language it is. If you activate Polylang on top of an existing monolingual site, then it will ask you once what language should be used as default and it will mark all your previous content as being of that default language.

If you look at https://polylang.pro/doc/configure-the-languages/ it looks as if you might try to change your default language, if that would be appropriate.

Also: there’s an article about how to duplicate content across languages: https://polylang.pro/doc/duplicating-content-across-post-translations/

yes you are right i think i did something with the default langauges.

first i had english and i change to swedsih and back to englsih.

still that i change back to english my english pages do not have a the englich translation it still show tha tthey need to be transalted.

i hope you understand i having difficulties to explain.
how can i get back to one default lang? if i delet the swedish will all my text disipear?

It’s possible that Polylang will flag your content as being one language when you first select default language, and after that – not. Perhaps your best approach (if you’ve got a suitable backup of your database) would be to install a backup from just before you started experimenting with Polylang.
It’s possible that you could get a chance to fix this by deactivating Polylang. But before that, make sure that you’ve saved a backup of your database.

super thx Torbjörn for taking care of me 🙂

    crap no backup 🙁

how can sync all the swedish pages with english? or do i need to do one by one?

@birken Go to the post or/and page list, check all checkboxes, go to bulk edit, select new language, save.
Repeat this until you have changed the language of all posts and pages as well as for all taxonomies.

ok so i have two flags and it says:
Bulk translate – Swedish and English
so i should choose in English right?
and then i have Action and i can choose from:
    1. Copy original items to selected languages
    2. Synchronize original items with translation in selected languages

what action should i choose? so i dont create duplicate content.

    hi guys,

any ideas what i should choose in previous message?

I’d suggest that you save a backup and then just give it a try.
With regards to duplicated content: You will have duplicated content until you manage to actually translate what needs to be translated.
It might be useful to “ask search engines not to index your site” under Settings→Read during this period.

    i am super confused.
is all duplicated now i have over 50 pages, is this the way it should be?

    regards B

If I recall correctly, Polylang will store each language version as a separate post. So half of your pages are marked as English, and the other half as Swedish (and you’ll now have to walk through and translate all posts/pages where the content now is in the “wrong” language).

    oh i see,
also at top bar in dropmeny where i can filter the lang/flags if i choose swedish it shows all englsih in the list, is that right?

Again. I’m speaking in general. For my tri-lingual site I’ve been using other plugins. But I’m sure you’ll find your way around. And don’t forget to check the the vendor’s support site, it contains lots of good info. 🙂
