# DB suddenly broken

 * A couple of my WordPress sites are giving me this error:
 * “Error establishing a database connection”
 * On one of the websites I tried to do the automatic repair but it didnt work. 
   It gives me these messages:
 * wpbuddy_usermeta: 3 clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly
    wpbuddy_posts:
   3 clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly wpbuddy_comments: 3 
   clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly wpbuddy_options: Table
   is marked as crashed wpbuddy_postmeta: 3 clients are using or haven’t closed 
   the table properly wpbuddy_term_taxonomy: 3 clients are using or haven’t closed
   the table properly wpbuddy_term_relationships: 3 clients are using or haven’t
   closed the table properly wpbuddy_commentmeta: 3 clients are using or haven’t
   closed the table properly
 * Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 * Do you have access to the DB via phpmyadmin? If so, repair the tables via that
   utility.

 * Thanks for the reply Steve. Where is that utility in phpmyadmin?
 * Here is the interesting thing. I did the repair and optimize database option 
   at [http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/maint/repair.php](http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/maint/repair.php)
   and it came back with a bunch of errors, including the last ones I pasted in 
   OP.
 * But when I re-load the site now its working.
 * I just tried a second site and ONLY did the repair this time, and the site still
   shows error establishing database connection. I do a repair and optimize and 
   the site will load, after errors.
 * So it seems I can get the sites working again, but I’m worried there’s a bigger
   issue?

 * The usual cause for table problems like this is a database server crash. Is this
   your own VPS or is it shared hosting? (You have a chance of dealing with it proactively
   if you’re on your own VPS.)
