    I am using DB-manager and have entered the correct paths to mysql and mysqldump, however when i get the files i seem to get help info:

    /usr/bin/mysqldump Ver 8.22 Distrib 3.23.52, for suse-linux (i686)

    Dumping definition and data mysql database or table
    Usage: /usr/bin/mysqldump [OPTIONS] database [tables]
    OR /usr/bin/mysqldump [OPTIONS] --databases [OPTIONS] DB1 [DB2 DB3...]
    OR /usr/bin/mysqldump [OPTIONS] --all-databases [OPTIONS]

    -A, --all-databases Dump all the databases. This will be same as
    --databases with all databases selected.
    -a, --all Include all MySQL specific create options.
    -#, --debug=... Output debug log. Often this is 'd:t:o,filename`.
    Directory where character sets are

    I am unsure how to troubleshoot this issue

    the command seems good seems like it is created from this:

    $backup['command'] = $brace.$backup['mysqldumppath'].$brace.' --force --host="'.$backup['host'].'" --user="'.DB_USER.'" --password="'.$backup['password'].'"'.$backup['port'].$backup['sock'].' --add-drop-table --skip-lock-tables '.DB_NAME.' > '.$brace.$backup['filepath'].$brace;

    any suggestions as to why it fails?

    Try creating a new php file called test_ssh.php
    Put this content inside it

    <?php passthru("THE_COMMAND_THAT_GOT_PRINTED_OUT"); ?>

    Then point your browser to the test_ssh.php See if it does backup

    Created the file put it in the root folder pointed the browser and did not see a backup it in backup folder.

    the plug in wp-db-backup works fine however i would rather have 1 plugin to manage this instead of 2.

    any other suggestions or thoughts on what the issue might be?

    how about try <?php system("THE_COMMAND_THAT_GOT_PRINTED_OUT"); ?> if it still does not work try <?php exec("THE_COMMAND_THAT_GOT_PRINTED_OUT"); ?>

    WP-DB-Backup uses PHP to generate the Backup while WP-DBManager uses mysqldump (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/mysqldump.html) application itself to generate the backup

    That still doesn't seem to work. it doesn't even generate the help page as listed above.

    My work around is,

    added this line to the db-backup
    $sched['monthly'] = array('interval' => 2592000, 'display' => __('Once Monthly','wp-db-backup'));

    to get a monthly backup

    and schedule it in db manager as 0 and left the optimize and repair options.
