 * Ok, first of all, thanks wordpress for offering your product for free.
    I am
glad to -be able to- use wordpress. Though I keep running up against a problem
with the database connection. [quote]Error establishing a database connection[/
quote] That has got to mean there’s something wrong in my configuration file.
Here’s what I checked; minimum requirements (php, mysql) wether the database
is actually up (checked that manually) wether the DB had changed (gasp).. and
most important of all, I compared the ‘answers’ I gave in wp-config.php with
the info I entered in other configuration files. (For example a Simple Machine
Forum) The data that SMF used to connect with my database is the same as the
data I gave to the wp config file. Nevertheless 😐 … it won’t let me install
 * *oh and I chmodded all the wp-files to (755) so that awardspace.com (host I’m
   using) won’t complain

 * I’ve installed a few accounts for others on awardspace.com.
    You have 2 possible
problems. The name of the database is wrong. You needed to upload files in passive
mode. The latter is a real quirk of awardspace.com. Also, the requirement to
CHMOD all files to 755 is irresponsible and dangerous in my opinion for a host
that cares about their customers security.

 * After a quadruple check; DB name can’t be wrong.
    Umm, that ‘passive mode’ you
   are talking about; how do I upload passively? I chmodded the files to 744 now;
I reckoned it couldn’t hurt that much to let Others execute, not write ánd execute,
my uploaded files, but k. I think that latter problem you mentioned is mine.
Is there a certian .. switch to pull? in the FTP-prog preferences or ..

 * On passive mode. I use Filezilla for ftp and it’s in the advanced tab on the
   site set up screen.
Look in your readme or help section of the ftp client you
   use.

 * I use Cyberduck for ftp. When I checked out the ‘advance’ tab (which, funnily,
is litterally called like you said). It said that I am uploading all files passively-
   by default- .
That’s a pitty actually, as there isn’t really a possible problem
left that may explain the contineous message about not being able to get a connection
   with my DB started.
 * The last thing I can come up with is that
    db5.awardspace.com is NOT the way
to call the DB host. You, samboll, might be familiar with this. I assume the
way I mentioned is the correct one (?) Not that I haven’t tried numerous of different
ways to call the DB_HOST …

 * db5.awardspace.com
is what I’ve used on every install there.
 * If you want to, contact the folks at

and let one of them take a look at it. Might even be me. :>)
