I am using count links feature and my database has grown drastically. wp_yoast_seo_links has 1,095,384 rows and 119.5 MiB size. Growing database at such hugh size will impact the performance of the website. Please suggest.

  • How many posts do you have on the site?

Do you link them to one another manually a lot?

Can you check the table for duplicates?

i have around 12 thousand woocommerce products on the site. I have hardly linked them with one another… i think it is because of tags and categories of all of these posts.

It’d be good if you could examine those links more closely. Counting links from archives isn’t a bad idea, and could explain the large number of links being counted, but is certainly cause for concern about this feature.

Yoast team may have been a bit too “gung ho” about this feature, with not enough real world testing of their idea. I don’t actually see must value in the recent introduction of the cornerstone and link counting features.

Why not truncate that table and forget about this feature?

very true…. i have stopped using cornerstone for various reasons and now truncated the table for links.

@techjockey we’d welcome you to submit a bug report to the Yoast SEO GitHub repository to optimize the database tables when using the text link counter feature on a large site.

@mazedulislamkhan this may not be about optimising tables, but about the exponential nature of dynamic index pages (and therefore links). I’m personally avoiding the link counting update until this is handled.

Until something is updated, I don’t see why the links need to be kept once they are counted. To me, this is a design issue that may not have passed the test of real life.
