I already fixed the issue everybody is having regarding blank images (no images) or placeholders and the “forever” spinning on home page with images (too long to be loaded). This was driving me crazy. Basically, you have to rollback to the version 1.2.0 through FTP:

    1. On your WordPress account, deactivate the plugin (any version you have (1.3.0, 1.3.1 or 1.3.2)) and then delete it and as David says “you should backup your database and your wp-content/uploads folder before trying out new plugins”.

    2. Go to https://wordpress.org/plugins/external-featured-image/download/ and download version 1.2.0 to your computer.

    3. Using a FTP program (I used Core FTP LE), transfer the version you just downloaded to the plugins directory (/yourwebsite.com/wp-content/plugins/).

    4. Nelio External Featured Image (version 1.2.0) will be shown on your plugins list (www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/plugins.php)

    5. Activate the plugin and that’s it!

After doing this, I have been testing my website, and I haven’t had any problem so far. Hope this helps you too. Good luck guys!

  • The truth is that the V1.2 is the best, I do not like the new features of the V1.3

In my case upto v1.3.1 was working fine. After updating to v1.3.2 I was having problems of blank image, place holder & slow loading.
I tried to revert back to v1.3.1 but it didn’t help. Finally I tried v1.2 and every image is working as normal.

    Hi guys!

I’m sorry to see that 1.3 series didn’t work as expected. Well, for some users did work, for others didn’t.

Anyway, since apparently version 1.2.0 is more stable and reliable, I’ve decided to go back to that version and “remove” 1.3 series (it’s under the Developers tab, if somebody wants it).

If you now delete the plugin and install it again from your Dashboard, WordPress will download and install version 1.2.0 (no need to use FTP as recommended by @wppower).

    Have a nice day!
