Dates are displaying in the order posted not date of event

Hello, I know there are several similar questions open but I haven’t found any answer. My events are displaying in the order they were added to the site. I have tried disabling all of my plugins and switching to the default WP theme so I do not believe it’s a theme issue.
This is my shortcode: [events scope=”future” order=”DEC” orderby=”event_start_date” per_page=”3″ show_filters=”false” show_categories=”false”]

I found this article about enabling logs but the log plugin does not seem to exist: https://wp-eventmanager.com/knowledge-base/enable-trace-debug-javascript-file-logs/
