WP 2.3.2 is up and running - no problems.
I'm attempting set up a new instance of WP 2.3.3 on the same server but with WP's own database.

I've set up the new database - checked, double, triple, etc. checked the db name, db user, db password.
I can see the database using SQLyog but there are no tables.

Using "localhost" in the connection string produces a WP error: "Error establishing a databse connection" when running the install.php file.

When I change the connection string to "server.myhostingco.net" (which works in my WP 2.3.2 instance) it produces "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" , Most likely causes:

  2. You are not connected to the Internet.
    The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.
  3. I need help. Any ideas?

Go to your db. When you open it it should say near the top what it is running on. Like "Welcome to phpMyAdmin 2.4.0 MySQL 4.0.16 running on localhost as dbname@localhost"

Check that against your wp-config. You shouldn't have to guess about what to use.

Okay. . .I'm looking at phpMyAdmin.
phpMyAdmin doesn't have a "Welcome to phpMyAdmin" visible.

    It does show:
    Server version: 4.1.22-community-nt-log
Server: SERVERNAME via TCP/IP (Changed to protect the innocent of course)
    User: username@servername

And in the left column is shows the database something like:

    mydatabase(0)

phpMyAdmin does not specifically call out:
"MySQL 4.0.16 running on localhost as dbname@localhost"

Looking at the system variables it shows:
    C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 4.1\

Thanks for your help so far.
    Any more ideas?
